The small orchard at Blue Ash Farm yields several bushels of a mixed variety of apples and a few pears. I have never sprayed them with any kind of chemicals so they are not usually the most perfect looking shiny apples like you see in the grocery store. My bees pollinate the blossoms in early spring and I want Blue Ash Farm to be pesticide free.
Despite the lopsided, not necessarily perfect shaped apples, they have great sweet flavor! They are perfect for the fruit press to make cider, cider vinegar, and cider syrup. The left-over mash is great for making natural pectin for jellies and jams. It’s another fun but sticky project and the sweet delicious cider screams that it is autumn and harvest time!
